In my Kitchen: Everyday Essentials

My kitchen is my domain. It is my space of the house where I make all the decisions and I wouldn't have it any other way. Every home has that one room in the house where all the time gets spent and I can honestly say that I spend at least half of my time in my kitchen. I can easily spend 5 hours in the kitchen doing this or that. Whether its organizing my cupboards, cleaning out the refrigerator, baking sweet treats or cooking dinner. The time always passes quickly. When you spend time in your kitchen certain things become second nature to you. When you reach for something regularly, it becomes essential to you. Here is my list of everyday essentials that I could not function in my kitchen without.

Having a high quality Dutch Oven is a must have for even the most novice chef. The options for what you can do with this kitchen essential are endless. From comforting seasonal soups to the perfect roasted chicken, this is one essential you need in your kitchen now. Le Creuset is my favorite and is an iconic brand that will become an heirloom to pass down through the generations.

For the baker, having a good set of dry measuring cups is essential. When I was choosing my kitchen tools I knew that having a quality set that would last was important to me, which is why I chose the All-Clad stainless steel measuring cups.  These are so durable and can easily be tossed in the dishwasher for easy cleaning. Similarly, I use the All-Clad stainless steel measuring spoons both are favorites in my kitchen!

When I decided to cut out all non-stick pans from my kitchen for health reasons, I needed something that was going to be reliable and easy to clean. I was gifted a cast iron skillet that became my go-to for anything from breakfast foods to frying doughnuts. Once you break in your skillet and get a nice seasoning on it you wont miss your non-stick pans at all!

If you are a cookie lover like me, you will love the Silpat baking mat. It is the perfect non-stick surface that makes cleaning your cookie sheet a breeze. This mat is especially necessary for baking Parisian Macarons and other delicate specialties.

I will be the first to admit, I am not the neatest when it comes to cooking and baking. I love having several towels on hand for cleaning up spills, wiping down the counter space or drying my hands. These all-purpose kitchen towels are perfect for all those things and a must-have for any kitchen.

When it comes to kitchen tools that have many uses a good pair of nonstick tongs is at the top of that list. I love mine and cooking would not be as easy without them!

I use various canning jars for things around my kitchen on a regular basis. From making kefir to using as storage in my pantry, I love a good jar. I especially love the Weck brand, they have so many different sizes and shapes, I could never have enough! I love using them to store my pink salt, the fact that the lids can just rest on top is a huge plus for me. It makes it easy to access whatever is inside when you are busy juggling different tasks in the kitchen!

Having good quality knives is one of the most important things for me in a well curated kitchen. Dull, lifeless knives are super frustrating and don't really do any good. Knives are one of those things that can last a lifetime if you buy a good quality set and take proper care of them. When shopping for knives in my own kitchen I fell in love with the Shun knives. They are a Japanese brand and are ultra sharp with so many options for each individual.

My most prized possession in my kitchen is my Kitchen Aid mixer. I grew up using my moms mixer for everything, from the perfect batch of chocolate chip cookies to Friday night homemade pizza! The mixer is definitely and heirloom piece that you will love for years. They now make so many attachments for the mixer that it can do literally anything you want from making pasta to grinding meat and everything in between.

The last thing on my kitchen essentials list is so simple, but makes such a difference. Hand soap and lotion is super important, I am constantly washing my hands when I am in the kitchen. When it comes to handling meats I am somewhat neurotic about hand washing and then their are times when its just a quick rinse of cookie batter. Either way, having a good soap and lotion combo on hand is important to keep your hands looking beautiful. I love changing my soap to match the season, which is why I love this Cinnamon Spice scent from Williams-Sonoma.

This is my super condensed list of kitchen essentials, of course their are so many more things that I use regularly and I am constantly discovering new products that I love.
