Pomegranate Hibiscus Sparkler

The Holiday cocktail is an important part of planning your perfect dinner. With the table set in all the finest wares and the guests dressed up in holiday best its important to offer a cocktail that reflects this special gathering. Serving a signature holiday drink is giving guests a little something extra to make the day one to remember. Even if your family isn't big on specialty cocktails its still fun to offer something more than the standard wine or beer. I created this festive looking drink that is best served as your guests arrive and are getting reacquainted with each other around delicious hors d'oeuvres. Adding this fun little cocktail will be the perfect icebreaker and help everyone to feel more welcome.

Nothing is more festive and celebratory than popping a bottle of sparkling wine and with a rich meal right around the corner I wanted this cocktail to be light and bubbly. With a simple pairing of sparkling wine and the slightly tart and floral flavors of hibiscus, pomegranate and St. Germain you can create a pop of flavor that is somewhat unexpected for a Thanksgiving meal.

Pomegranate Hibiscus Sparkler

1/2 ounce Hibiscus Syrup (Recipe below)

1/2 ounce Pomegranate Juice

St. Germain elderflower liqueur

Sparkling Wine such as LaMarca

Add the Hibiscus syrup, Pomegranate juice and a splash of St. Germain to a champagne flute. Top with sparkling wine to Fill glass. Top with pomegranate seeds to garnish.

Hibiscus Syrup

1 cup dried Hibiscus petals (can be found in bulk at most health foods stores)

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

Combine the sugar and water in a sauce pan over med-low heat. Stir constantly until the sugar is dissolved. Add Hibiscus petals and simmer over low heat 8 minutes. Strain the petals from the syrup and store in a jar in the refrigerator until ready to use.

I hope you enjoy this simple and sparkling cocktail this Thanksgiving. Next week I will be bringing you the perfect hors d'oeuvre to serve your guests while they mingle and wait on the Turkey! Happy Holiday planning!
