There is something so ritualistic and old fashioned about going to a farm and picking your food directly from the plant which it grows. I am blessed enough to live in an area where this is possible, and common. One of my favorite summer foods is the Blueberry. They are perfect for eating by the handfuls, a variety of baking recipes and savory foods as well. Blueberries are one of those foods that can capture the essence and flavor of summer right into their petite little skins. I had the pleasure last week of going to Lazy Valley Ranch Blueberry Farm. It was a lovely day for harvesting with light winds blowing in with perfect timing. While somewhat labor intensive, picking each individual berry takes time, its enjoyable work. Therapeutic, if you allow yourself to forget about the modern world and all its worries, just for a few hours and transport yourself into another world. A world where you are part of the land you live and the land is a part of you.
